Planning a stag do in Gdańsk? You're making a great choice — cobblestoned streets, legendary nightlife, amber-lit old town bars, and a Baltic edge that makes it feel genuinely different from Prague or Budapest. But Gdańsk also has a few packing traps that catch out even experienced stag groups. After 20 years of organising stag weekends across Europe, here's what we've learned. If you're still deciding on a destination, check out our guide to Top 10 Cheap Stag Do Locations to compare your options.
Pack for the Weather, Not the Photos
This is the single biggest mistake groups make in Gdańsk. Men see "Baltic coast city" and picture a summer beach holiday. What they get is a city that's famously windy, frequently overcast, and genuinely cold — even in May or June. Groups routinely turn up in shorts and flip-flops, spend Friday night freezing on the terrace of a riverside bar, and spend Saturday morning hunting for a Żabka that sells tracksuit bottoms.
Essentials for the Gdańsk weather:
- A lightweight, packable waterproof jacket (non-negotiable)
- At least one pair of jeans or chinos — don't rely on shorts
- Layers: a hoodie or thin knit under your going-out shirt goes a long way
- Comfortable walking shoes that can handle wet cobblestones
The Costume Lesson We'll Never Forget
We organised a stag group from Manchester — lads had gone all-in on a full superhero costume theme for the stag. Looked incredible on Długi Targ. The problem? Nobody thought past the costume. When midnight hit and the group moved from the pub crawl to one of Gdańsk's bigger music clubs, the door staff took one look at the capes and politely pointed them elsewhere. Clubs have dress codes. Costumes — however legendary — often don't pass them.
The golden rule: if you're bringing a costume, pack a change of clothes. A clean shirt, smart-casual trousers, and a decent pair of shoes should always be in your bag as backup. Not sure what to wear as a group? Our guide to Top Stag Do T-shirts has you covered — matching tees are a brilliant alternative that work in almost any venue. Your party guide can also tell you exactly which venues on your pub crawl have stricter door policies — just ask them.
Pack for the Activities, Not Just the Trip
Most packing guides tell you what to wear at the airport. We're telling you what to wear at the paintball arena. For a full overview of what activities are on offer, take a look at our guide to Top Gdańsk Stag Weekends: Activities & Packages.
Gdańsk stag packages often include activities like paintball, off-road buggies, or outdoor challenges — and these will destroy whatever you're wearing. Pack one set of clothes you genuinely don't mind ruining:
- An old pair of trainers or boots (paintball fields are muddy)
- Dark, older clothes you're not attached to
- A small dry bag or waterproof pouch for your phone during water activities
Pack these separately so they're easy to grab on activity morning without unpacking your entire bag.
The Smart Packer's Checklist
Going out:
- Smart-casual outfit(s) for evenings and club entry
- Backup outfit if wearing a stag costume
- Clean shoes that meet a dress code — check our guide to Best Spots for Nightlife Gdańsk to know what each venue expects
Activities:
- Old trainers or boots for paintball or off-road
- Old dark clothes for messy activities
Weather & comfort:
- Packable waterproof jacket
- Layers (hoodie, thin knit)
- Sunscreen — summers on the coast are sunnier than you'd expect
Tech & practicalities:
- Travel adapter — Poland uses the standard EU Type C/E socket; if you're travelling from the UK, you'll need one
- Portable phone charger (long nights, low battery)
- Small amount of PLN cash — some older bars and market stalls are cash only
The #1 Rule: Pack Light, Pack Smart
You're going for 2–3 days. You don't need a checked bag. Everything above fits in a carry-on if you're intentional about it. What you do need is the right things — because buying a last-minute waterproof jacket on Mariacka Street is both expensive and deeply avoidable. If you're still working out the logistics of the whole weekend, our Stag Weekend Gdańsk 2026: Complete Guide by Local Polish Experts covers everything from arrival to last orders.
Our party guides in Gdańsk know the city inside out — the clubs, the dress codes, the weather patterns, the hidden bars. Before the weekend, ask them. That's what they're there for.
Organised by a team with 20 years of stag do experience across Gdańsk, Warsaw, Kraków, Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava — we've seen every packing mistake in the book, so you don't have to repeat them.
